Cries From Within

In my book, Cries From Within, I make myself transparent to the world on my journey of healing from childhood scars. I have had a couple people ask me why I shared some of the most intimate parts of my life…..or was I ashamed of what I had gone through…..or how did my loved ones feel about what I shared? And to top it all off, I went from writing a book to producing a movie that shares the story in greater detail. Those are GREAT questions and I thought this would be the perfect place to talk about it.

For many of you, I don’t have to ask you to imagine anything, because 1 in 4 girls and 1 in 6 boys are sexually assaulted by their 18th birthday. So either you have dealt with this issue firsthand or you know of someone who has.

About 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men face physical assaults in their lifetime. And in my great state of SC, we rank #1 out of all 50 states to females killed by the hands of an ex-boyfriend, boyfriend, spouse, or significant other. We have cried with them, over them, and shook our heads in disgust.

But what do WE do???? We meaning our communities, families, churches, or individuals.

I found out in a training that I attended that an ant can carry up to 10 times its weight. Now most of us know the ant from the sting it leaves behind after it bites you, but living the country life, I could get lost watching an ant carry a piece of bread from one spot to the next with a line of ants following behind it. It amazed me how consistent they were in completing this task despite how difficult it may be.
